South Africa

The southernmost part of the African continent only extends about as far south as the Carolinas are north. Therefore, the winters there are mild by Central New York standards, actually similar to the summer weather we've been having in 2015. Mild days in the 60s and 70s and chilly evenings in the 40s (those are Fahrenheit) made for very pleasant conditions. Capetown, being further south was cooler than Hoedspruit in the north east. We were blessed with good weather throughout our trip which allowed us to enjoy all the planned activities with only some occasional wind and never a downpour.

Almost all international air travel in and out of South Africa goes through Johannesburg. Our tour started in Capetown, in the Cape Peninsula, the southwestern most tip of Africa; then slid over to the Garden Route which is the south coast and then the finale was the safaris at the Kapama Private Game Reserve in the northeast.
